We have a BIG secret! We have been working so hard to become word detectives. We have completed 5 missions that helped us train hard to become official word detectives. We have finally earned our badges and are so excited to put our training to work! If you need a word detective, call room 6! We are here to help!
We did a mindfulness activity that gave us time to relax and think about all the things that warm our hearts! We then got to make a craft to go along with our activity. We made hot cocoa and all of our marshmallows have the things that we feel warm our hearts. This was lots of fun and very calming. What warms your heart?
Ms. Dulong's friend Globe Trot Scott is sending us some wonderful crafts and letters all about places he has visited in the world. We will get to learn about cultures and holidays celebrated in different places. We are so excited! Stop #1: Israel We learned so much about Israel and their culture. We talked about different traditions and holidays celebrated. We even got the chance to make our very own menorahs! Our friends who celebrate Hanukkah got to share their family traditions. Ask us about Israel! Stop #2: Australia Globe Trot Scott made his way all the way to Australia! We were so lucky to learn about some of the traditions that people from Australia have. We learned that they celebrate Christmas but that their traditions may be a bit different from those of us who also celebrate Christmas. We got to make SANDmen because there is no snow in Australia! Stop #3: India Today we learned about traditions and culture in India. We were excited that Globe Trott Scott sent us a craft to do! A holiday celebrated in India is Diwali. Diwali is the festival of lights! We got to make our very own lanterns. Stop 4: Mexico
Globe Trot Scott made his way to Mexico! We were excited to learn all about what people celebrate. In Mexico, there are many celebrations. We learned about the traditions of Christmas in Mexico and how they may differ from traditions of some of us who celebrate Christmas. We learned that they decorate outdoors and indoors with poinsettia flowers. Globe Trot Scott sent us our very own to make! We had lots of fun studying the moon. Our journals came out great! For the friends who brought theirs in, they got to teach others all about what they observed and noticed about the moon! Great work!
Back when planes were invented, engineers had the important task of designing a solution to a BIG problem. How do we get people out of an unsafe plane? How do we get things in a plane out of the plane if it is still flying? That's right! They invented parachutes. Your 1st grader was an engineer today and designed their very own parachute! Check us out!
Today's science experiment was focused on what air can do. We got to observe and investigate with different materials to figure out what air can do. We know that air can move things from place to place, fill up things like bags and balloons, and you can't see it but it is everywhere! Check out these scientists!
Today we worked in groups to think of all the words we can that have the digraphs we have learned! Check out our hard work!
These mathematicians are still working so hard on their geometry! We are filling in big shapes using smaller shapes. We've practiced filling the same shapes in many different ways. We also have tried filling shapes with more and fewer! We're starting to explore geo-boards and making shapes on them as well as sorting power polygons in different ways!
